#TodayImWearing Business Style

Last week I received some very exciting news. My clothing label, Jemimah, had been chosen to feature in Babette clothing store. Babette sells vintage and vintage-inspired clothing, leather boots and bags, and vintage jewellery and hats. I absolutely LOVE Babette, and cannot believe I get to sell my label in this store.

And so, for my FIRST business meeting, I decided to wear black, white and red. Nothing says "serious" and "business", more than this colour palette. And since this was a fashion business meeting, I had to make sure my outfit depicted my style, my label's style and Babette's style. So I married my classic, chic style and my label's monochromatic palette with Babette's vintage style. I paired my white blouse and chic cropped tuxedo blazer with my vintage high-waisted denim shorts. I finished off my look with red booties and a vintage leather satchel bag.

(It was super windy, so the "fly aways" were a bit ridiculous!)

After my meeting, signing my very first contract and seeing my clothes hanging on the rail in Babette, we celebrated at the local restaurant with a few drinks.

A while ago, I blogged about Babette, telling my readers that this store is a definite must see and must shop! Definitely karma! See that blog post here.

#TheMakingOf Wine Red Gown

I recently had to sew a gown for a client's Graduation Ball. It was both challenging and exciting, new techniques were used but the draping and pleating were such fun. She chose a beautiful wine red chiffon, which I draped across the bodice, gathered at the waist and then let it fall to the floor.

We took inspiration from an emerald green dress worn by Sofia Vergara.

Here are the "behind the scenes" snap shots of the construction of this dress.

The chiffon was gathered over the bust, and then twisted underneath for a more exciting and different look!

Because of all the pleats, about a million pins were used to hold the shape of the bodice while I hand-stitched each pleat to the bodice.

And finally, the dress worn by my client. How beautiful?!? And just fit like a glove!

#TodayImWearing Lace Skirt

Today I wore my lace skirt from my label, Jemimah. It is very feminine and flirty, so instead of making my entire outfit very girly, I decided to pair it with a khaki cropped tee and chunky oxblood ankle boots. I accessorized my look with a black chain necklace and a buckled belt. I wanted my look to be more edgy than pretty and flouncy, which is the unexpected pairing for this lacy skirt. I finished off my look with my cropped tuxedo blazer to add an androgynous feel.

#Trends Oversized Masculine Coats

The September issue of the UK Vogue features Miranda Kerr modelling this season's hottest coats and jackets!

All these coats are hot off the Autumn/ Winter 2013-2014 runway and follow the trend of being oversized and quite masculine. A lot of faux fur and leather trimmings are also featured.

And so... in keeping with this great winter trend, I decided I needed my own oversized masculine coat...

Instead of purchasing one, I designed and sewed one exactly to the specs that I wanted: grey with leather trimmings, an oversized collar and a zipper down the front instead of buttons.

And here it is. I also added some monochrome leopard print lining to make it more exciting.

This is the perfect coat since it is so versatile, perfect for day AND night, and of course, it is super comfortable and warm!

My day time look:

#TodayImWearing Leopard Print Trousers

Today I thought I would debut my leopard print trousers which I designed and sewed the other day.

To make my outfit look more "day", I paired my animal trousers with a casual printed tee and red booties. I threw on a black cropped tuxedo blazer to add a more formal element, but rolled up the sleeves to keep with my "day" look.

I just love the combination of leopard print, red and apricot!

#TheMakingOf Tapestry Tulip Skirt

I am absolutely loving the tapestry trend, and so I decided I should design and sew my own version of this trend, with a tulip skirt. The shape and shorter length of this tulip skirt is modern, so a floral tapestry fabric won't make my outfit look like your granny's sofa. I added pockets to the design to make it more interesting.

Here's the making of my tapestry tulip skirt:

And finally... the end product!
To keep my outfit modern, I paired my tapestry skirt with a denim shirt and boots with exposed socks.

#TodayImWearing Grunge

Today I went grungy with a cropped tee, black leather belt and black ankle boots. I paired my grungy items with a pale pink lace skirt that I sewed, to soften my outfit. A tuxedo jacket smartens up my look, and the parka adds some cool factor. Finally, I piled on a bunch of rings to accessorise my look!

#WearingTheTrends Stripes & Leather

Today I decided to pair my leather pencil from my label, Jemimah, with a striped knit from Jay Jays. I finished off my on-trend look with my Bershka quilted chain bag and Topshop buckled ankle boots.

Not only are these trends seen on the runway, but celebrities are also spotted wearing them!

#TodayImWearing Printed Bomber Jacket

Today I decided to take my freshly made bomber jacket out on the town (see 'the making of' here). I didn't want to take any attention off the jacket, so I paired it with an understated outfit of black and white.

#TheMakingOf Printed Bomber Jacket

This past weekend I was feeling very creative, so I decided to design and sew myself this season's MUST HAVE, the bomber jacket.

{The bomber jacket is typically identified by its Chinese collar and exposed zipper down the front.}

I love printed fabrics, so I decided to make a printed bomber jacket with some black and white tweed fabric. I used a McCall's jacket pattern to get the general shape of the jacket panels, and then added my own features including a black suede lining, zipper pockets and an exposed zipper down the front.

And this is what the final product turned out like:
