#WearingTheTrends Androgyny

A trend that is very popular for Winter '13/'14 is menswear. Designers dressed their models in masculine garments at the Autumn/ Winter runway shows, which oozed androgyny. I absolutely love the idea of women wearing menswear. This creates a contradicting outfit, as it mixes feminine flirty items with some masculine
pieces. Menswear can be quite oversized and large, but if proportioned correctly, it will make you look good instead of frumpy. Many of the outfits I put together have to have some masculine piece; it just makes you look cool and smart, and kind of odd. Which I love!

Vanessa Bruno sent very androgynous looks down the runway for her Autumn/ Winter '13/'14 show. I also loved her manly tones of grey, white and navy.

For today's outfit, I paired my manly oversized tweed blazer with my grey fedora and pointed buckled flats. I contradicted these masculine pieces with suspender stockings and a pink flower necklace. Although this outfit was one big contradiction, it still worked together to make the perfect androgynous look with a flirty edge.

Fedora - Portobello Market
Flower necklace - Forever 21
Tweed blazer - Mango
Breton - Urban Outfitters
Scalloped shorts - Babette
Suspender stockings - River Island

#Trends Monochrome

I am so into the monochrome trend, that I hardly ever wear any colour! It's a big trend on the Spring/ Summer 2014 runway, both internationally and locally. The street style seen at the past fashion weeks has included this trend more than once.

Here are some of my favourite monochrome looks from the S/S '14 runway shows.

Here are my favourite street style monochrome looks. Something I am loving this season, is a large-striped blazer!

While "browsing" some online shopping sites, I found the most amazing monochrome waterfall biker jacket from River Island for £50. It's a piece that I would die to have hanging in my closet. So I decided to put together two outfits, one for the day and one for the night, using this jacket as the center piece for both looks.

My day time look

I kept the look minimal with black high-waisted skinny jeans and a simple grey tank. The patent brogues and raybans finish off the look, making it very sleek. Since this is a day time outfit, I added a red handbag for a dash of colour. And something you cannot forget for your monochrome outfit, is some red lipstick!

My night time look

I am totally loving the bra top this season, so why not make it more elegant and chic with a statement jacket? To avoid showing too much skin, pair your bra top with high waisted shorts. These leather ones are perfect for a night out. I kept the accessories simple with black pointed cut-out booties, a pink and black clutch and rose gold jewelry.

#GetTheLook Boyish Black

For today's #GetTheLook, I decided to go very edgy and masculine... and black. I just LOVE the outfit of the blonde "off-duty" model. It is very masculine with the boyish blazer and loose fitting trousers, but the leather of the trousers and being an all-black outfit, this outfit just oozes edginess! The black lace-up heels add a feminine touch and the plain white tee brings the outfit together.

1. Black blazer - Topshop
2. "Love" belt - New Look
 3. Leather trousers - River Island
4. Lace-up heels - Call It Spring
5. Black tote bag - Asos
6. Raybans - Shopbop

#GetTheLook Winter Blacks

Apologies for my absence over the last few weeks... I have been on holiday in the sticks, where fashion does not play a role AT ALL!

So thankfully, I am back in Cape Town again and can resume my love for fashion and dressing up.

So to kick start this next half of the year, here is how to wear all black during winter, without having to look scary and gothic, and instead super fashionable!

When wearing an all black outfit, mix textures to make your outfit more exciting and not too plain. I love this outfit (below) because it mixes beading, leather, zips and Melton.

The leather collared black coat is my favourite, and it is from Woolworths! (Can you believe it?) If the black coat doesn't do it for you, there is also a grey coat in the same style, also from Woolworths.
