#LFW Day One: London Fashion Week

For day one of London Fashion Week, I decided to mix prints, while keeping the look androgynous: my go to style. Being LFW, I thought I should show my support for British brands and chose to wear Topshop and Asos. They are my two most favourite brands anyway, so putting this outfit together was not at all troublesome. I paired my monochrome checked trousers with a floral blouse; added a pair of black ankle boots and threw on a long black coat. I accessorized with chunky gold jewellery and a simple black crossbody. This is one of my most favourite looks to date and I was totally in my element wandering around the bustling Somerset House square, snapping pics of  well and interestingly dressed individuals before they entered the kick-off shows at LFW. I will be sharing some of the LFW street style photographs that I took soon.

#Trends Spring 2014

Now that I am living in the UK, I obviously will be following the seasonal trends of the northern hemisphere, and so I will be writing about those trends. (Sorry South Africans... but you will have to file this important info away and bring it out when the next season comes around.)
So anyway... Obviously there are always quite a few trends that designers follow for their collections, but I have picked out my five favourite trends for Spring 2014. These trends are those which I find more interesting and challenging.

Obviously I love the monochrome trend, but this season, this trend is a remade version of last season's monochrome trend. So why not try some new trends? Especially when many of the trends for Spring 2014 have exciting colour palettes!

1. Raw Art
Think lots of colour, raw brush strokes and paint splatters.

2. High Shine
This is all about sequins, shimmers, chains and metals.

3. Sport Luxe
This trend transforms general sporting wear with chic fabrics and new silhouettes.

4.  African Chic
Think African prints, tribal colours and rustic textures.

5. Oxford Boys
This trend updates the simple button up men's shirt, and adds some sexy flare.

Lots of stores have their Spring/Summer collections coming in after the Winter sales, and I have already seen most of these trends. The sports luxe trend has been a very popular one in the high street fashion brands.

#FashionShow Cape Town Fashion Week

This past week Cape Town held its very own Mercedes Benz Fashion Week (MBCTFW). Not only is the fashion and clothing on the runway exciting, but the attendees also had the chance to show off their unique styles.

Here are my Top 10 looks of MBCTFW.

(Photo credits: Trevor Stuurman and Michelle Oberholzer)

Look 1:
I love the simplicity of this outfit, yet the lace-up boots worn with the skater skirt give this outfit some edge.
Look 2:
Absolutely LOVE the black dungarees. Her outfit just oozes "grunge" with the beanie and boots.
Look 3:
The white jumpsuit is so chic, and the black heels add elegance. I would not have worn the long pendent necklace though.
Look 4:
This has to be the most exciting outfit. The colours are just rad, and I love the contrast of the peach tulle underneath the stiffer printed fabric.
Look 5:
This outfit is so chic and right on trend with the pastel palette. The gold accessories are the perfect touch.
Look 6:
This has got to be my favourite! The outfit is so simple yet so chic. It's so Stella McCartney/ Celine!
Look 7:
This outfit is right on trend with the "masculine oversized" look. Keeping it minimal with the monochrome palette looks so chic.
Look 8:
Again, I love the pastel palette. This outfit is super elegant and I love the contrast of the softly draped skirt and the structured lace top.
Look 9:
This outfit just has SO many "rights": the mustard yellow and the royal blue is the perfect match, the cropped oversized top is right on trend and the statement necklace is the perfect accessory. The only element I would change, is the shoes.
Look 10:
I love this monochromatic look and the pairing of horizontal and vertical stripes. The faux fur hat and the quilted backpack add a trendy touch to the outfit.
Which look is your favourite?
